Cate Laporte-Oshiro, Co-President
About Cate: Cate’s concentration is Chinese state capitalism, and she is interested in US-China relations, as well as economic policy. She is a member of the Yale Political Union and also part of the new Consent and Communication Educator program here at Yale. She is hoping to work in China after graduation.
Derek Walker, Co-President
About Derek: Derek is an economics major in JE, who transferred to Yale from Bard College at Simon’s Rock last year. He is interested in how financial markets promote economic growth in developing countries. This past summer, he interned with Corporate Treasury at Goldman Sachs and, after the US government was downgraded, decided to take leave from Yale for a semester to go work in the US Treasury’s Economic Policy Department.
Paul Zeng, Vice-President and Head of Fed Challenge Corporations Team
About Paul: Paul is a senior economics major who spent the past summer in the Research Department at Credit Suisse. Paul also is the Director of the Yale Student Investment Group Think Tank.
Mary Liu, Director of Campus Relations and Head of Fed Challenge Finance Team
About Mary: Mary is a senior Economics major in Morse College who enjoys reading about gold prices, the latest debt crisis, and speculating when the Chinese yuan will take over the world. She’s Head of the Financial Markets team for the Fed Challenge, and enjoys helping freshman navigate the obstinate jargon of finance. If she had spare time, she would be playing volleyball, piano, or running in circles at the indoor track. In the future, she hopes to manage her own venture capital fund in biotechnology.
Kevin Liu, Treasurer
About Kevin: Kevin is a sophomore in Ezra Stiles College double majoring in Economics and Applied Math. He is also a member of Yale’s club Taekwondo team and Yale Student Investment Group. He spent the past summer studying in Beijing, China.
Erin Burke, Director of the YUEA Economics Competition
About Erin: Erin is a junior economics major in Silliman who split the past summer between classes in Spain and working in the municipal pension office in Milwaukee, her hometown. Erin’s professional interests extend to the intersection of economics and public policy, ranging from urban redevelopment to American foreign policy. On campus, she works as a paleontology curatorial assistant at the Peabody and volunteers with Yale’s No Closed Doors.
Cynthia Hua, Social Chair
About Cynthia: Cynthia is a freshman in Stiles college who is considering a film major. She enjoys documentary film-making and screenwriting; in the future, she hopes to work as a producer. She is the Social Chair for YUEA and enjoys planning events for the group.
